Chess - Asian Team Chess Championship Update
The Indian eves had to be satisfied with the Silver Medal in the Asian Women team championship after losing the last round match against Iran 'B'. Never mind that. Silver is an improvement over the last bronze that we won in the last event held at Jodhpur

Indian men snatched the lead from Vietnam after beating them 3-1 in the ninth and penultimate round of the Asian Team Chess Championship in Isfahan, Iran on Tuesday.
While Ganguly scored a fine victory over GM Nguyen Anh Dung, Chanda proved much stronger for teenager Le Quang Liem.
On the top board for India, GM Krishnan Sasikiran drew easily as black against Dao Thein Hai, while on the third International Master S Kidambi held GM Nguyen Ngoc Truongson to get the team the much-needed victory.
Indian eves did well again to beat Iran A by a 2.5-0.5 margin but were joined by Vietnam at the top of the tables after the latter cruised to a 3-0 victory over Iran B after the fifth and penultimate round.

India defeated defending champions Bangladesh and won the SAFF Cup 2-0. The victory created a landmark for India skipper Baichung Bhutia who became the first player to win a SAFF Championship gold for the third time after playing a key role in India’s 1997 and 1999 triumphs.
Besides receiving a glittering trophy and a winner's cheque of $50,000 from Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Baichung Bhutia, who won his third SAFF gold, also won the Most Valuable Player's award.

Hockey Men Sahara Champions Trophy - schedule update
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has agreed to a combined request from Doordarshan and the Indian Hockey Federation for a late reschedule of the Sahara Champions Trophy, which will be held in Chennai from December 10 to 18.Doordarshan had requested that India's matches be rescheduled to 1830 IST in order to screen the games live on its nationwide terrestrial channel. Delayed highlights of other nations matches will also be screened the following morning on its satellite channel, DD Sports.

The eight-nation championship got underway on Wednesday. Hosts Pakistan and Maldives won their opening Pool A matches, defeating Sri Lanka and Afghanistan respectively.

Harikrishna in World Chess 2nd round
Grandmaster and former World junior champion P Harikrishna marched his way in to the second round of the World Chess Cup with a sweeping 2-0 victory over Yu Shaoteng of China in the tie-break games of the first round. Grandmasters Krishnan Sasikiran and Surya Shekhar Ganguly had already made it to the second round after beating Alexei Iljushin of Russia and Hikaru Nakamura of United States respectively under normal time control games.
