Grandmaster P Harikrishna was the only silver lining for India as the former World Junior champion advanced into the third round with a victory at World Chess Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.
His compatriots K Sasikiran and Surya Shekhar Ganguly squandered advantageous positions to perish in their round two tie-breakers.

Harikrishna in World Chess 2nd round
Grandmaster and former World junior champion P Harikrishna marched his way in to the second round of the World Chess Cup with a sweeping 2-0 victory over Yu Shaoteng of China in the tie-break games of the first round. Grandmasters Krishnan Sasikiran and Surya Shekhar Ganguly had already made it to the second round after beating Alexei Iljushin of Russia and Hikaru Nakamura of United States respectively under normal time control games.

Grandmaster Krishnan Sasikiran also advanced to the second round after outclassing Grandmaster Alexei Iljushin of Russia in the return game but former World Junior champion P Harikrishna was forced in to a tiebreaker by Chinese Yu Shaoteng
