India defeated defending champions Bangladesh and won the SAFF Cup 2-0. The victory created a landmark for India skipper Baichung Bhutia who became the first player to win a SAFF Championship gold for the third time after playing a key role in India’s 1997 and 1999 triumphs.
Besides receiving a glittering trophy and a winner's cheque of $50,000 from Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Baichung Bhutia, who won his third SAFF gold, also won the Most Valuable Player's award.
